Children & Music

In 2018, young musicians from Northern Nigeria began visiting orphanages to offer music lessons to the children living there. As they play music together, the children discover their talents and grow stronger as individuals. In cooperation with a local trauma healing organization, they support the children in overcoming their challenging circumstances.

Currently, about fifteen musicians are involved in accompanying approximately one hundred children, in nine orphanages.

As these musicians themselves mostly live in precarious circumstances as well, they receive a fee for their music lessons. This financial support enables them to invest in the musical and psychosocial development of vulnerable children in the longer term, while they work towards becoming financially independent.

The lessons include various instruments such as flute, guitar, piano, violin, and also local instruments. A team of music teachers from Switzerland accompanies the young music school in the development of a simple curriculum and through in-kind donations such as instruments and teaching materials. We at Rings of Hope believe in the vision of these musicians, namely that these children will flourish and that their music will fill northern Nigeria with sounds of hope!
